As you may know, Inquiry-based instruction and STEAM-inspired lessons are taking over the classroom. In the past, I have found difficulty finding a resource that contains a realistic and simple approach for incorporating both inquiry and STEAM practices into my lesson plans. Yes, there are a multitude of resources available on both inquiry and STEAM-based inspired instruction, however, I have found that without putting hours into reading and research, getting your hands on a resource with a blended easy to implement plan for these practices is difficult. While there is not a correct process or method for making your classroom centered around inquiry and STEAM, the purpose of this blog is to bring to light some of the overlapping characteristics of both instructional approaches and to share some key findings from my research. I would like to provide strategies, tools, and simple steps for making a classroom more inquiry and steam based. As a middle-school science teacher, this blog will be science-based, however, many of the blended inquiry and STEAM tips and tricks that I will be sharing will translate into any classroom. Lastly, I will be sharing some of my middle school science lessons and resources to give you an idea of how I made simple changes to my classroom to start incorporating both inquiry and STEAM practices.
